Spiritual Reproduction Requires Intimacy with God

In the Bible, "spiritual reproduction" refers to the concept of a believer
actively sharing their faith and leading others to become followers of Christ,
essentially "birthing" new Christians through discipleship, mirroring the idea
of physical reproduction by having children; the most prominent verse
illustrating this is John 15:4-5, where Jesus describes himself as the vine
and believers as branches, stating that only by remaining connected to him
can they bear fruit (meaning make disciples).

Key points about spiritual reproduction in the Bible:​

The Great Commission:
Matthew 28:19-20 instructs believers to "go therefore and make disciples
of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and
of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded
you." This is considered the core mandate for spiritual reproduction.

"Be fruitful and multiply":
While originally referring to physical procreation in Genesis 1:28, this
phrase is often applied metaphorically to the concept of spreading the
Gospel and multiplying disciples.

Discipleship:
The process of spiritual reproduction involves actively teaching and
mentoring others in the Christian faith, guiding them towards a personal
relationship with Jesus.

Importance of relationship with God:
Just as a branch needs to be connected to the vine to bear fruit, a believer
needs to maintain a close relationship with God to effectively share their
faith and spiritually reproduce.

Spiritual Multiplication Through Relationships.

Spiritual Reproduction Requires Intimacy with God
We need to check our steps if the process of disciple-making that we use does
not reproduce disciples that make more disciples. This is exactly what the
apostle Paul was communicating in 2 Timothy 2:2 “You have heard me teach
things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesses. Now teach these
truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others.”
Disciple-making is most effective when we start by reading God’s Word and
reflecting on it in prayer to Him daily. Scripture reminds us often that our
spiritual journey each day grows by building a close, continuing relationship
with God. One very clear verse is James 4:8: “Come close to God, and God will
come close to you.” We see this again when God speaks to Jeremiah:“Call to me
and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not
know,” (Jeremiah 33:3.)

A very strong and clear explanation of how we spiritually reproduce from our union with God is described in John 15:4-5:
“Remain in Me, and I [will remain] in you. Just as no branch can bear fruit by
itself without remaining in the vine, neither can you [bear fruit, producing
evidence of your faith] unless you remain in Me. I am the Vine; you are the
branches. The one who remains in Me and I in him bears much fruit, for
[otherwise] apart from Me [that is, cut off from vital union with Me] you can do
nothing.”

How can we develop intimacy with God?
● Read God’s word daily.
● Respond to God in prayer, by reflecting on what we read.
● Be in relationship with other believers who can spur us on.
● Memorize scripture.

The proof is in John 15:16. “You have not chosen Me, but I have chosen you and I
have appointed and placed and purposefully planted you, so that you would go
and bear fruit and keep on bearing, and that your fruit will remain and be
lasting, so that whatever you ask of the Father in My name [as My
representative] He may give to you.”

If God were to do a report on some of us, He would describe us as having spiritual
infertility; spiritual barrenness.

● God desires ALL of his children to be spiritually fruitful!
● He desires ALL of us to evangelize!
● He desires ALL of the Church to not give in to despair when things are
difficult! We need to return to operating in a way that flows out of prayer,
discernment, and faithfulness to the model of Jesus Christ.
